About Cps
English (USA)

The purpose of the Critical Policy Studies Network (formerly the Theory, Policy, and Society Group) is to explore the theoretical foundations of public policy inquiry. Although the field of policy studies has grown rapidly over the past several decades, the field as a whole has tended to neglect its theoretical and epistemological foundations. During the same period of time, there have been important developments in other areas of the social sciences that bear directly on the issues and concerns of policy research, such as critical theory, political economy, science and technology studies, the philosophy of science and social science, poststructuralism, postmodernism, social constructivism, discourse analysis, feminist theory and methods, ethnomethodological inquiry, and interpretive methods, among others. More recently a new policy scholarship has begun to bring these new theoretical and methodological insights to bear on policy studies. The Network is organized to provide a forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas relevant to these theoretical concerns and their methodological implications for policy studies. It does this in a variety of fora, but most importantly through the journal of Critical Policy Studies, published by Routledge (Taylor and Francis Group).
